Written by Meghan Proudfoot | Sunday, April 24, 2011

For Immediate Release

Ottawa (Canada), April 8, 2011 – The Ottawa Bach Choir (OBC) is thrilled to be invited to perform its debut concert at Carnegie Hall's prestigious Weill Recital Hall in New York City on May 23, 2011, at 8 pm. The Choir will present some of its best-loved works, giving a foretaste of its 10th anniversary CD to be launched in the 2011-2012 season.

Canadian soloists, including soprano Agnes Zsigovics, tenor Jeff Boyd and bass Jean-Sébastien Kennedy, join the Choir, along with some of New York City's top baroque instrumentalists, including violinists Linda Quan and Amelia Roosevelt, violist Jessica Troy, cellist Allen Whear, double bassist Motomi Igarashi and organist Edward Brewer.

"Our Carnegie Hall debut and the tour to New York City have been the focus of our season, and we look forward to performing some of our best-loved repertoire from the last nine years in such a prestigious world venue," says Founder & Artistic Director, Dr. Lisette Canton. "Concerts will include music from the Baroque period, as well as Romantic and Contemporary a cappella repertoire that has garnered attention from around the world. Audiences will also be able to join us in this incredible experience through our new CD, due for release next season."

The OBC is Ottawa's only professional chamber choir, and incredibly honoured to be representing Ottawa and Canada on this internationally renowned stage at Carnegie Hall, which has hosted other stars, such as Yo-Yo Ma, Andreas Scholl, the Eroica Trio, Penderecki String Quartet, Orlando Consort and many more.

Other thrilling performances on the OBC's tour itinerary include a Cocktail Party at the French Consulate of New York (934 5th Avenue) on Thursday, May 19, 5:30 pm, and a concert in the "Arts at the Park Series," Park Avenue Church (1010 Park Avenue), on Sunday, May 22, 3:00 pm. To purchase tickets, please contact the Ottawa Bach Choir by email at info@ottawabachchoir.ca or by calling 613.270.1015.

The Ottawa Bach Choir, which has received both national and international acclaim, was founded in 2002 by Dr. Lisette Canton and consists of some of the top choristers from the National Capital Region and beyond. With the combination of a scholarly and emotional approach to choral music, the Choir provides an unforgettable experience of music at its best. Performances this season also include a preview concert, Prélude-Carnegie Hall, in anticipation of the New York tour at Redpath Hall in Montreal on May 7, at 7:30 pm; a concert at the German Embassy Garden Party on June 14, at 5:30 pm; the final concert in its Intimate Concert Series, hosted by Bill & Jean Teron, on June 23, at 7:30 pm; and a tribute to Liszt presented as part of the Ottawa International Chamber Festival on July 30, at 8 pm.
