Athena Babayan

Soprano

Athena has performed major operatic and oratorio roles, toured internationally with the JUNO-winning Ottawa Bach Choir, and appeared at Carnegie Hall, Notre Dame, and more. A Glenn Gould School graduate, she also composes and teaches voice and piano, with extensive experience and RCM certifications in both disciplines.

Hannah Lim

Soprano

Toronto-based soprano Hannah Lim has a lifelong passion for choral music. She debuted at Carnegie Hall with the York University Choir in 2019 and has toured with the Ottawa Bach Choir to Bachfest Leipzig. Now in her third season with the ensemble, she appears on their recording of Bach’s Six Motets.

Jennifer Palmer

Soprano

Jen began as a professional musician on piano and flute.  While obtaining her BMus at McGill she switched to vocal performance and has enjoyed performing with early music ensembles in Montreal and now with the Ottawa Bach Choir.  When not making music she works in medicine and spends her free time doing gardening and martial arts.

Kayla Ruiz

Soprano

Kayla holds a Master’s in Historical Performance from the University of Toronto and a BFA from York University. A soloist and professional chorister with the Ottawa Bach Choir since 2017, she has toured internationally, performed with Opera Atelier, and was praised in Gramophone for her contribution to the JUNO award-winning recording of Handel, Bach & Schütz.

Charlotte Stewart-Juby

Soprano

Charlotte, a McGill opera graduate, has performed with Opera McGill, the Nathaniel Dett Chorale, and Opera In Concert. She has appeared as a soloist in Kingston and Toronto, taught with the Canadian Opera Company, and now lives in Ottawa, joining the Ottawa Bach Choir while studying at Carleton University.

Karen Frank

Alto

Toronto-based mezzo-soprano Karen Frank holds a Master’s in Choral Conducting and a BFA in Classical Piano from York University. She has performed with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, TSO, and at Bachfest Leipzig and Carnegie Hall. Also trained in dance, she currently is pursuing her doctorate in conducting at Boston University and sings with the Ottawa Bach Choir.

Heather-Lynn Smith

Heather Lynn Smith holds a Master’s in Vocal Performance from the University of Ottawa and a deep-rooted love for harmony. A longtime member of the Ottawa Bach Choir, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Notre-Dame, and Bach’s Thomaskirche. She also directs the Nepean Songsters and sings with La Chapelle de Québec and OttaVoci.

Zachary Windus

Countertenor Zachary Windus holds a Master’s in Vocal Performance from the University of Ottawa and completed post-graduate studies at the Victoria Conservatory. He has performed with prestigious ensembles like Arcady, the Tallis Scholars, and the Ottawa Bach Choir. An award-winning composer, conductor, and organist, his works have been performed internationally.

Colleen Woodhouse

Ottawa-based alto Colleen Woodhouse has sung with the Ottawa Bach Choir since 2002. A specialist in early music ensembles, she holds a B.Mus from Carleton University and has performed with groups like Euphonia and Ottovoci. Colleen has appeared internationally at venues including Carnegie Hall, Thomaskirche Leipzig, and Notre Dame Paris.

I joined the Ottawa Bach Choir in 2003 after reading an article about this exciting new ensemble. With no classical training—just some choral and percussion experience—I auditioned on a whim and was accepted. My first concert was Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and I’ve been singing with the group ever since.

Nicholas Piper

Nicholas Piper is an award-winning composer, singer, and choir director based in Ottawa. A graduate of the University of Victoria and Carleton University, his music has been performed nationwide. He serves as Director of Music at All Saints’ Anglican Church and is President of the Ottawa New Music Creators.

Alasdair Campbell

Toronto-born baritone Alasdair Campbell has a licentiate in voice at McGill and a B.Sc. (Chemistry) from Carleton. He has sung with SMAM, the OBC, Ensemble Caprice, and others. He looks forward to singing Achille in Giulio Cesare with OperOttawa in November and Messiah with Rideau Chorale in December 2025.

Theodor Tetz

Before moving to Canada in 2021, Theodor sang professionally in Denmark for many years. He studied at the Royal Danish Opera and the Zealand School of Church Music. He has performed several Bach cantatas with members of the Copenhagen Philharmonic as both a soloist and ensemble singer.
