Ottawa (Canada) – The JUNO award-winning Ottawa Bach Choir (OBC) presents an authentic Baroque performance of Bach’s Johannes-Passion (St. John Passion), BWV 245, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, 7:30 PM, at Christ Church Cathedral, 414 Sparks Street, in Ottawa. Under the direction of its Founder and Artistic Director, Lisette Canton, the OBC performs – in an event not seen in two decades – Bach’s dramatic retelling of the Passion according to the Gospel of John. Joining the choir will be an array of Canadian and international early-music stars, including soprano Hélène Brunet, countertenors Daniel Taylor and Nicholas Burns, British tenor Charles Daniels and bass-baritone Edward Grint, along with the Theatre of Early Music baroque orchestra.
“Composed in 1724, the performance of the Passion was the outstanding musical event of the year in Leipzig and this setting of John’s Gospel is Bach’s most theatrical,” says Founder and Artistic Director, Dr. Lisette Canton. “Join us for an authentic Baroque presentation of this beautifully inspirational music, as Bach would have performed it over 300 years ago, with some of the best Canadian and international performers in this style. A performance not to be missed!”
Founded in 2002 by Dr. Lisette Canton, the Ottawa Bach Choir offers audiences a wide range of choral music of the finest quality, performing music from all historical periods while keeping Bach’s choral oeuvre as the focus of its repertoire.
