The Ottawa Bach Choir opens 25th season with Baroque Christmas

Ottawa (Canada) – The JUNO award-winning Ottawa Bach Choir (OBC) presents the first concert of its 25th anniversary season with Baroque Christmas on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 7:30 PM at St. François d’Assise Church, 20 Fairmont Avenue, Ottawa. The joyous opening concert features Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s festive Messe de minuit pour Noël, H. 9, and In nativitatem Dominum canticum, H. 314, alongside J. S. Bach’s Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BWV 61, and festive works by Michael Praetorius, performed with Ensemble Caprice baroque orchestra and soloists from the choir.

“The first concert of our 25th anniversary season tells the Christmas story with captivating baroque music by         Charpentier, Bach and Praetorius. Charpentier’s iconic mass setting is based on popular French noels (or carols), while Bach and Praetorius use well-known chorales and carols to unify the cantata and motets on which they’re based, all influenced by the preeminent French and Italian styles of the day,” says Founder and Artistic Director, Dr. Lisette Canton. “Start the Christmas season in style with this joyous celebration of baroque music—you won’t want to miss it!”

Founded in 2002 by Dr. Lisette Canton, the Ottawa Bach Choir offers audiences a wide range of choral music of the finest quality, performing music from all historical periods while keeping Bach’s choral oeuvre as the focus of its repertoire. The choir has garnered acclaim through award-winning recordings and worldwide tours, including in Canada, Europe, the United States, Mexico and China, featuring prestigious appearances at Bachfest Leipzig, Meet in Beijing, Festival Música Santa Fe, Ottawa Chamberfest, Carnegie Hall, and more. The OBC is invited to return to perform at Bachfest Leipzig— representing Canada—in June 2027.
